Who Is This Jesus by Michael Green. An examination of the life of Christ.

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis - An classic examination in reason of the foundations of Christian theology

The Life Application Bible - A treat to read because of its many footnotes on culture, history, theology and application to life today.

The blinking 12:00 on the VCR may not tell us the time, but it does tell us something else:

  1. The VCR has been disconnected from its source of power, and

  2. Its owner must have lacked either the time, concern or knowledge to make it right.

I found out the hard way that life can become much like the flashing 12:00 on the clock.  You didn't have to look hard or long to know that something was wrong.  I found myself feeling disconnected and it seemed I'd have to start over again at the very beginning to get back to all the things that were important.

But how does one start over and not have the same thing happen again and again?  I found that the first key was getting plugged into a power that would never quit or fade, turning in prayer to the power of God in my life.  The second key was to take the time to read and learn His simple instruction manual on how to set life right, which I found in the words of Jesus Christ.

VCR's come with simple instructions from the manufacturer but some people never even read them, and they go through life with clocks that don't tell the time of day. If we don't get plugged in and read the instruction manual from the Manufacturer of life, came we expect much more in our own lives?

"You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God."
Words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 22:29

The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.  The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
Psalms 19:7-8

Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. Do good to your servant, and I will live; I will obey your word. Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me.
Psalms 119:12-19

"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."
Words of Jesus Christ in John 15:10-13
